StonehamBank Branches to Host Shred Day and Food Drive October 20

With the overwhelming success of this past spring’s Community Shred Day, StonehamBank Sales and Marketing Manager, Joshua Mahoney, recently announced the second 2012 Shred Day on Saturday, October 20 from 9 AM to 1 PM at both its Stoneham and Billerica branches.
“So many documents we traditionally save contain personal information that can be used by anyone for illegal purposes,” notes Mahoney, “and these papers should never be just thrown away. We encourage people to periodically review what they have and destroy any sensitive documents that they no longer need to reduce the risk of identity theft. Shred Day is a quick and easy way for people to deal with handling of such documents, using an environmentally-conscious approach.”
“Once the paper is shredded it will be recycled,” adds StonehamBank’s Retail Services & Business Product Manager Mary Celli. “The onsite shredding will be handled by Shred-it, a company that specializes in onsite document destruction. Each of their trucks houses an industrial grade shredder that will destroy your documents while you watch! To further promote going green, StonehamBank employees will be on hand to educate customers about electronic statement options.”
For this collection, the bank is also providing an opportunity for those who bring shred items to bring non-perishable grocery items for the Stoneham and Billerica Food Pantries. StonehamBank Business Development Specialist Sharon Iovanni notes that “with the holidays rapidly approaching, local food pantries are anticipating an even greater need than usual. It is our thought that in providing the shred service to Stoneham and Billerica residents, we could also benefit local residents in need, in keeping with StonehamBank’s commitment to making a difference in our communities.”
Kim Savage of the Stoneham Food Pantry notes that the holidays generally drive more need than usual and Billerica Food Pantry Treasurer Marie O’Rourke agrees. “On average,” O’Rourke notes, “we serve about 160 families monthly and that number usually goes up in November and December.” The only requirement for donations is that items are non-perishable – i.e. jars of peanut butter and jelly, paper products, canned vegetables - and not beyond the coded “use by date.”
