Financial Literacy Resources

Stoneham Bank is a valuable community partner, providing students with real-world financial education and entrepreneurial experience. Through engaging lessons on credit, banking, and small business loans, students gain critical knowledge that prepares them for life beyond the classroom. A highlight of the partnership is the annual Shark Tank-style pitch competition, where students present original business ideas to a panel of judges. The opportunity to win a cash prize not only fuels students’ creativity and ambition but also gives them a tangible incentive to work hard and take ownership of their learning. This collaboration helps students build financial literacy and confidence in their ability to succeed in the business world.

In our growing world, today's students benefit from being equipped with the skills, knowledge and mindset to become engaged, informed and productive members of our society. Focusing on creativity, collaboration, communication, and adaptability across Science, Technology, Engineering and Math is the foundation of STEM education. Financial Literacy teaches students about the basics- money management, budgeting, avoiding debt, investing, and planning for the future. Not only do these skills help students in their everyday lives, but it directly correlates to the skills they are learning through STEM instruction. Providing access to STEM and financial literacy prepares all of our students for their future. Partnering with Stoneham Bank has been excellent for the students in our school system- they've been having fun and engaging with financial literacy skills, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with you.

In today's rapidly evolving world, financial literacy education is essential for helping our students develop those critical life skills needed to navigate personal finances - from budgeting and managing debt to planning and saving for the future. Sponsoring Shark Tank in the Boardroom - helping our students understand business finance and 2. Guest speaking during our Personal Finance lesson for the Money 101 class. As part of St. Patrick School’s middle school curriculum, students participate in an Enrichment Class focused on essential life skills such as dinner etiquette, public speaking, note-taking strategies, and more. This year, we were thrilled to partner with Stoneham Bank to introduce a special financial literacy series for our middle school students.
Over the course of nine weeks, Stoneham Bank team members volunteered their time—at no cost to the school—to deliver interactive, age-appropriate lessons that laid the groundwork for smart financial habits. Through engaging discussions and activities, students explored topics like needs vs. wants, cash flow management, and the difference between fixed and variable expenses. One particularly eye-opening takeaway from the students was that even millionaires can find themselves in debt without proper budgeting; on the other hand, smart spending can achieve financial freedom with just about any income.
We are incredibly grateful to Stoneham Bank for generously sharing their time, expertise, and commitment to empowering our students with real-world financial knowledge that will serve them for years to come.
