STONEHAM, MA (November 16, 2021) – As a sponsor of the 2021 Field of Honor, StonehamBank was offered the opportunity to honor a number of local first responders with flags celebrating their military service and their service to the community.

This year, the Bank chose to honor members of the Stoneham Fire and Stoneham Police departments and invited their Chiefs to nominate individuals.

The honorees for 2021 were listed on the roster at the Field of Honor and with tags on the flags flown during the week of November 9.

Fire Chief Matthew Grafton and Police Chief James McIntyre each nominated three members of their department for recognition as follows:

Stoneham Fire Department:

  • Fire Captain Dave Eastman, U. S. Air Force, Master Sergeant E-8;
  • Firefighter Sean Fitzgerald, U. S. Army, currently serving in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant Major E-9 Infantry;  and,
  • Posthumously in memory of  Firefighter David Atherton, U. S. Army, Specialist E-4, who passed suddenly shortly after graduation from the Fire Academy.

Stoneham Police Department:

  • Police Officer Luc Bourgeois, U. S. Marine Corps, Sergeant;
  • Police Officer Kenneth Bowdidge, U. S. Air Force, Senior Airman; and,
  • Police Officer Laura Engel, U. S. Army. Sergeant.

Following the closing ceremony on Saturday, November 13, the flags were delivered to the Police and Fire Departments for the individuals or their families to keep.

StonehamBank was proud to participate in this year’s Field of Honor and especially to honor those individuals who have kept – and continue to keep – our community safe.  We thank all those who made the event possible and those who were honored at the event for their service and commitment to the Town of Stoneham and our country.
